Can I share a little of my heart and tell you why I created this membership?
It was not that long ago, I felt overwhelmed, frustrated, and lost just like you. When I started teaching first grade I was handed a reading manual, wished the best of luck, and sent on my way.
I quickly discovered that the programs were very much a one-size-fits-all. I couldn’t help but wonder—What about the students who were struggling and just not ready for first grade content? Were they just supposed to fall further behind?
I had no idea how to help my students. I was frustrated and overwhelmed. I began to seek out my own solutions.
I knew as a first grade teacher, I was going to play a crucial role in students’ literacy journey. I went back to school and got my masters in reading. It was then that I realized there was a better way.
I started moving away from the programmed approach and started focusing more on my students individual needs and the science behind reading.
I learned the progression of a reader and how complex learning to read actually was. After many years of training, research, and testing, I have finally figured out how to best support my struggling readers.
